Manchester United

When the boys at home saw the piece of MU edible print on the kitchen top, they went "Oi!! What's that doing in this house?". We're fans of the underdogs and Manchester United is the enemy. Nevertheless, it was a simple cake to do. The figurine of the birthday boy was of course the most time consuming (the need to dry every piece thoroughly at every stage of assembly). I'm glad I didn't rush through with him because it was raining mad the last 2 days. Had I not dried the figure section after section over a week, he would have collapsed on D-Day. This was a 9" butter cake that came up to weighing 2kg, will feed 20 people well. It's completed covered in "grass" of buttercream.

Favourite Things

This guy is a very lucky husband. His wife went through the trouble in coming up with a list of his favourite things and had yours truly turn them into edible pieces. Honestly, they were very tedious to create but again, it's also my nature to be detailed. I'm not complaining though! I truly enjoyed making them because I got to recreate some really cool pieces. Here's what they are, starting from the top left corner: animals from *Agricol, Storm Trooper, top hat and cane, theatre masks, birthday boy's age, iPhone, iPhone date application, tokens from *Kingsburg, flat screen and wireless mouse, fencing mask and epee, Darth Vader and Mace Windu's light sabers, ship from *Puerto Rico, settlers from *Catan Hexes, weights, birthday boy's name, gun and grenade, panda, crate of rum bottles from *Cuba, red cubes and imp from *Dungeon Lords and a *Planet Steam marker. To top it all off, the cake was a rich chocolate cake filled with minty ganache.
* I was introduced to these board games I never knew existed!!! Sounded so interesting that I have Young Master hinting for one of these games for his upcoming birthday. Hmm...we'll see.

Baby Shower

These Orange Poppyseed cupcakes were for a baby shower. No prizes for the correct guess if the baby's going to be a boy or a girl!

Mini Pastels

Did a batch of these sweet little cupcakes in chcocolate and butter a couple of days back. Each of them were topped with a decent squirt of pastel coloured buttercream and a sugarpaste flower. Don't they look absolutely pretty in their buttercup yellow window boxes?

Darth Vader

After a month-long of "forced-break", I'm soooo pleased to be back doing some creative idling and what could be more exciting than to recreate the Sith Lord with cake! This 2.6kg carrot cake was stacked, covered and sculpted within 3 hours (and manage to cook dinner after that!). A feat since I expected to work through the night. I guess the force was strong that night and strong in this one ;-)!! Didn't get very good pictures though with the black helmet coming off grey and World War II-like with my auto. Nevertheless, I think the picture looks unmistakenly Darth Vader and notice his light saber???? Psst...got a mini Storm Trooper coming up end of this week!

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in (Mini) Wonderland! I only had a 6" round surface to work on this theme and this was one that I could do so much! Nevertheless, it was nice revisiting this great story. I doubled the cake as the ground and the MadHatter's hat. The main feature was Alice falling into the hole and all you see is her pair of legs. The rest of the toppers are little reminders of the fascinating story. Anyone up for a Red Queen cake??

Little Miss Turns 7

Our own Little Miss turned 7 on Monday and happily traded a party for a weekend of treats. She enjoyed her ice-creams, meals at her favourite joints and a bake-and-decorate session with mum. She wanted to give away cupcakes to her classmates and chose her favourite vanilla cake with chocolate chips. We had faces of her classmates made out of fondant with Little Miss designing and deciding on all colours used on those cupcakes. I must say that they turned out really pretty. She enjoyed the baking part but could only sit for 1 hour rolling and cutting fondant. She realised how much she had to do and so little was completed after the hour! Before she went to bed (with only 25 cupcakes covered, not adorned), she gave me a hug and said, "Mum, I hope you don't have to stay up too late (again) to finish this for me".

Though no party, I still baked her favourite chocolate cake in a mini pan. This finished cake weighed only 400gms and each of us had a quarter of her dress. She likes fairies and flowers. Put them together and we have a Flower Fairy. She loved it and was especially pleased that she was allowed to eat her head and body!
